When light equipment is installed outdoors or in humid environments, it is very important to choose fixtures with IP certification!
For instance, outdoor fixtures that are exposed to wind, sand, rain, and moisture for long periods may experience short circuits or damage if not properly protected.
This applies not only to outdoor light equipment; for safety reasons, it is also recommended to use IP-certified fixtures in indoor humid areas like bathrooms to avoid electrical failures caused by moisture.
Choosing fixtures that meet IP certification can effectively enhance durability and reduce maintenance risks, providing a safer and more reliable experience.
The IP rating we normally hear about, known as the ingress protection rating, is an international standard (IEC 60529) used to indicate the level of protection against the intrusion of objects, water, dust, or occasional contact for electrical enclosures.
This standard is equivalent to the European standard EN60529.
The IP rating includes the letters IP, followed by two optional digits. The last letter indicates the protection category.
The higher the number is, the better protect level indicates.
The first digit represents the level of protection against physical impact and the risk of contact with conductive objects.
The second digit indicates the level of water protection for the enclosure.
